Study: Many Canadians single when buying their first home

While some Canadians may dream of buying a home as a couple, a recent survey finds that most first-time buyers are single.

Of those that completed the survey, 54 percent of first-time homebuyers said they bought their home on their own rather than with a co-purchaser. And men are more likely to buy alone—they accounted for 6 in 10 of single purchasers.

The study also looked at what aspects of a property first-time homebuyers were least likely to compromise on. According to the survey, 39 percent of respondents said they wouldn't compromise on price, the most common response. The number of bedrooms was another point that wasn’t up for negotiation.

Price-conscious homeowners may want to shop around before settling on a home insurance policy, as rates tend to vary among providers.
